Wow. Balance. Forgiveness. Harmony. Joy. Love. Peace. Power.

Why? Because...

I have seen a man's fist
crush
a woman's jaw
yet
I envision
tender words
between lovers
and communication
open.

I have seen
emotions imprisoned
behind cold and calculating eyes
yet I envision
laughter and joy
rippling through
the unquelled soul.

I have seen
initiative dismembered by
jealousy, hatred and feelings of
not-enoughness
yet
I envision
unlimited potential
expressing
flourishing
becoming
pure manifestation of God.

I Am
therefore
I Love.

And so it is.

My Life's Mission Statement:

"The evolution of this Universe is likened to a huge canvas being painted upon by everyone in the world. I want to ensure that my mixtures of colors and textures, my dashes of light and depth are splashed, splattered and spread on this canvas with wide and long, full strokes. I want my element of this painting to vocifierate with victory and overflow with the actualization of hope."

A Day of Rest and Uplift

The Mothers
The Mothers are calling me. They call me home. Pick up the drum, pick up the dress, pick up the pieces of your life and come home. Come home to peace, girl. Come home to love, chile. Come home to thanksgiving. Come home to cooperation. Come home to balance and laughter and joy! Come home! The Mothers are calling me. They call me home.

I am quite ready for misogyny to be a historical blemish on humanity’s journey toward humanity. I am ready to tell stories of our peace, of our exquisite joy in supporting one another—male and female, young and old—in maximizing our limitless potential as beautifully divine creatures of absolute magnificence. I am ready for us to marvel at our outstanding accomplishments in accelerating our shared progress toward peace, positive and powerful human interactions, shared wealth, and unlimited creativity.

Each day I work toward creating this space in the world that supports the memory of the goodness of womanhood. It is a space that acknowledges the intrinsic value and inherent worth of all women and girls. It is a space that uplifts and upholds our honor as women so that we can reinforce and strengthen the necessary life force of women everywhere.

Mother’s Day Radio
Through Mother’s Day Radio, the community puts energy into creating and expanding this space that honors women in one of the most powerful cultural influences of our time—music media.

Mother’s Day Radio seeks to give women a voice to command a space for their honor, for their positive identities, and for their awesome contribution to life to be justly depicted in media; to be sung about in the lyrics of songs that will be sustained throughout the ages.

Mother’s Day Radio seeks to give young girls the opportunity to see their positive and unlimited potential reflected in the women they watch in music videos on a regular basis.

Mother’s Day Radio operates on the premise that organized and consistent community effort can bring about social and media reform.

A Day of Rest and Uplift
On May 12, 2007, in Los Angeles at Kenneth Hahn Park, a group of women and men activists gathered in all white and formed a circle of honor and celebration. As a part of our Day of Rest and Uplift, we stood in proxy for women everywhere who are voiceless, who find themselves victims of torture, abuse and disrespect.

After weeks of petitioning local radio stations, Mother’s Day Radio was able to declare a step toward victory for these women and for us all. In response to our call to action, two Los Angeles radio stations and one Erie, Pennsylvania station—KJLH 102.3 fm,V100.3 fm and WERG 90.5 fm—played a full day of positive, respectful and uplifting music in honor of our mothers, sisters, daughters and women everywhere.

Our Current Task
We have planted the seed. We now call upon you to support this work’s growth by taking an active role in Mother's Day Radio's 2008 Day of Rest and Uplift. This is a national day to rest from violence, sexual denigration, and misogynistic acts in our community and in our music. This is a day to uplift one another through song.

For our Day of Rest and UPlift, Mother's Day Radio asks the community to participate in a day of honoring our Sacred Mothers in the following ways:

1. Wear all white in solidarity on Saturday, May 10, 2008 to honor and pay homage to the women, young and old, of our community.
2. Rest from physical, sexual and verbal violence against women.
3. Uplift women with empowering, loving, forgiving, gracious, and compassionate language and interactions.
4. TURN OFF media outlets that play songs with misogynistic content.
5. TURN ON media outlets that support women with music that respectfully represents women. Links and station information for participating media outlets will be found on www.mothersdayradio.com on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
6. Purchase and download music for women that honors, respects, and serves to uplift their spirits (recommended music and artists will be posted on site).
7. Participate in our 2008 Day of Rest and Uplift events.

Thank You for your support!

“I had a vision of all of the women on the planet who had been walking around to this point without full smiles on their Spirit. Now they’re walking around with full smiles. They had been incarcerated with all of this madness and have decided ‘NO MORE.’ This Light of Hope as a result of what you and others are doing impacts those who had given into the incarceration. As a result, it frees all of humanity. Men are free, children are free. Those smiles do something for my Spirit. There’s a little more to my joy and happiness that had been forgotten, that had been taken away. Asante sana (thank you very much) for doing what you have been doing to follow the Divine call.”

The Price Tag On Our Freedom

I do not have a sideline life. I told this to my mother once. I wanted her to understand why I did not take the traditional path, seek the promising secure road, and make the building of a cozy nest with a hubby and kids priority one. And maybe, too, I needed myself to understand why I diverged from the formula that was laid out for me in my development.

Superman Dat Whaaaa.....?

“soldier boy off in these hoes, watch me rock, watch me roll, crank me up and watch me go now supa-man dat hoe, now watch me doooooo…”

More than half the room of high school teens raised their hands when asked if they knew how to “soldier boy”. When asked what “superman dat hoe” meant, only the boys raised their hands—some shaking their lowered heads and some with crooked grins. Finally one young man stood and explained to his female peers that the #1 song and dance in the country, rec
