- Born in Hollywood California. Raised as Baha'i in the LA community. Moved to New Zealand (with my family) in 1981. Did a degree in Music. Worked as a musician, filmmaker, theatre writer and director. I have travelled to and performed in over 25 countries around the globe. Did a Masters Degree in Sociology, then a PhD in Ethnomusicology and Sociology on "Rap Music in Aotearoa". I teach Popular Music and Ethnomusicology at the University of Auckland New Zealand. My research areas are: Hip Hop, New Zealand Hip Hop, Pacific Pop Musics, Gender and Popular Music, Pop Music History
