MySoulGen - The Next Generation of Social Responsibilty

What movies have y'all seen lately? Any recommendations? Disappointments?

My VERY short list:

Seven Pounds:
Very Good...a tear jerker. Will Smith still can't help but take his shirt off in a film...and also, expectedly, he "runs real fast"...all wet.. down a street.
Go see it, you wont be disappointed!
@@@@@

Gran Torino:
Disappointed, but tolerable. No offnense to white people, but do you PRAISE THE LORD when a Clint Eastwood flick hits the theatres? I liken him to the Brett Favre of film, he's good at what he does, but he's been around for so long that if you dis him, it's like Age discrimination!
The film was very predictable and the acting (other than the main character) was offendingly horrible!

The Blah Blah of Benjamin Button:
Still Confused. I don't try to overanalyze films, and I like for messages and plot lines to be fairly clear...but this one still has me scratching my head. The acting was pretty good, and it was definitely a visually stunning film, but many parts of the film seemed to be left underdeveloped or WAY too stretched out. And its LONG as hell (thats what she said).

I just saw Revolutionary Road last Friday. Kate Winslet is an amazing actress and yes she won a Golden Globe for the movie but I wouldn't watch it again. That movie was so depressing. It makes you not want to get married. And if you do decide to get married, it makes you think if you're marrying that person for all the right reasons. Not because society said you're suppose have that perfect family with the picket fence, 2 kids and a dog. But because your love and marriage can endure through all the b.s. society throws at you. Too depressing for my taste, I like to enjoy the movies I watch, not silently wish the movie was over.

Corinne Bailey Rae: The Sea

Anyone who’s been through a serious loss knows about the baffling part: After it’s over, you are still you. You are you, plus the loss, plus the pain and confusion the loss causes. Maxwell: BLACKsummers’ Night

The best way to listen to Maxwell’s new “BLACKsummers’ Night” is with the volume turned all the way up. The R&B artist didn’t take a turn toward heavy metal during the eight years he’s spent between releasing albums; this one, like his previous three, is full of meditative jams written on the continuum between ardor [...]

The Girl Who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes

I believe that children our our future. Most people think Whitney Houston penned the lyrics to the timeless hit “The Greatest Love of All,” or that Randy Watson was the genius behind the words when he led the wildly-famous soul band “Sexual Chocolate.” Actually, the song was originally recorded by George Benson in 1977 for the [...]

K’Naan: Straight Outta Mogadishu

Straight Outta Mogadishu Somali-born rapper K’naan on African pirates and the world’s hardest ghetto. —By Eamon Kircher-Allen for Mother Jones K’naan’s music sounds a little like Eminem’s, if Slim Shady had spent his childhood dodging bullets in Somalia’s civil war. “I Want Michelle Obama Arms!”

She’s Pumped. Your Turn. By LIZ ROBBINS THE arms have taken on a life of their own. They have provoked controversy, envy, a bit of backlash, even bad puns about the right to bare them.
